Wanderer of the Week – Anh Thu Nguyen

Country: Switzerland

Work Wanderers Retreat: Cape Town

What type of remote work do you do?

I’m a spiritual mindset coach, I help female entrepreneurs gain confidence and bring spirit in their day to day life, so that they can thrive and live in alignment with their souls.

Why did you decide to join the remote revolution?

When I started my business, a few years ago, I was doing in-person training in Singapore. After a few months, my partner and I decided to move back to Switzerland. At that point, I realized that if I could bring my business online and make it “portable”, I could have continued to work wherever I was. And so I did. This lifestyle allows me to travel whenever I want, to meet new people, to discover new cities, to be flexible.

Where have you traveled?

While working, I have travelled to Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, Australia, Vietnam, the US, Portugal, Spain, Italy, etc.

What challenges do you face as a remote worker?

In order to be able to work well, I need a stable internet connection, as well as a quiet place where I can focus (for example to hold my online training or group coaching sessions). This lifestyle makes me feel a little bit lonely sometimes, it’s difficult to create long-lasting friendships.

Why did you join a work Wanderers retreat?

I was looking for something well organized, where I could meet other digital entrepreneurs like me, and where I didn’t need to take care of the logistic stuff. Moreover, I wanted to discover South Africa.

How has your Work Wanderers experience been?

The experience has been really good. I appreciate that everything was arranged in advance. I didn’t have to worry about finding a good internet connection and it was beautiful to meet other digital nomads, spend time with them, enjoy the organized activities. Moreover, the house we stayed in was amazing and had many spaces: I had my own privacy, as well as I could share lunches and dinner with others.

What advice would you give someone looking to become a remote worker?

Being an online entrepreneur gives me a lot of freedom and flexibility, at the same time it requires me to schedule tasks in advance, organize my time well, self-motivate myself to follow through. Being your own boss means that you have to hold yourself accountable, learn to delegate what someone else can do for you, be productive in a smart way. It serves nothing to work 24/24h, it’s better to batch-work and focus your time and energy on what really matters. This means that you have to learn to manage yourself, your priorities and your goals.
